The wine takes its name from the leader of a band of soldiers of fortune who led a series of violent raids all across the area near Ancona in the Marches. As the historian Matteo Villani recounts in the third chapter of his ''History'':'' and in the month of march of 1345, he stormed and took the castle of Staffolo, full of excellent wine''. And so the deeds of this warrior demonstrate that the wine of Staffolo, one of the historic castles which dot this classic zone for the production of Verdicchio, already existed. Fra Moriale is produced from a very special selection of the finest grapes and is aged for six months in oak barrels. It is a wine of real personality which combines the character of Verdicchio, a native grape of the region and that of the casks in which it matures. The wine is capable of an interesting evolution and development if cellared.

Excellent wine from a particular zone with a unique production style.

A striking straw yellow in the glass with some golden and green hues. The nose gives pleasant and delicate floral tones as well as a hint of almonds. On the palate the wine is dry and balanced with excellent ripeness and femininity, a fruity mid palate and clean finish round of this bargain priced Verdicchio. (SN - 03/08)

Cimarelli Luca Azienda Agricola

The Fonte della Luna, agricultural estate of the Cimarelli family, grower-prodicer, is situated in the township of Staffolo in Ancona Province (Marche Region); this is the southern part of the ODC production zone of Verdicchio dei castelli di Jesi DOC Classico. The word ''Classico'' is reserved for the smallest part of the zone, one with the longest tradition and highest reputation. The vineyards extend over 17,5 acres, one part located near the town itself at an altitude between 1250 and 1300 feet above sea level and used for the production of ''Fra Moriale'' selection. Another part situated in the coste sub-zone where the grapes for the verdicchio dei castelli di Jesi ''classico'' a Montepulcian-Sangiovese blend named ''Grizio'' are cultivated.
