The top bottling of the famous Masi estate. The 2000 Amarone Classico Campolongo di Torbe has alcoholic warmth and a huge bouquet with its aromas of spicy plums and cherries. The palate is long and sustained, the wine has a good balance, and the texture has mellowed and is now smooth. Will improve over the next few years. Drink: 2007-2014. (SN-09/07)

Taste
The attack is smooth, later it becomes warmer, fuller, more tannic and powerful, and the finish still gives an illusion of fresh sweetness. In any tasting phase the wine is very well balanced, and demonstrates a great ageing potential.
Colour
Campolongo di Torbe has a deep ruby red colour. The slow rotation of the wine in the glass gives evidence to a high alcohol content.
Nose
An intense and persistent bouquet offers great complexity, passing from semi-sweet sensations of dried red fruits to more fresh and acidic fruits to the sweetness of chocolate and vanilla.
Accompanies
Ideal drunk on its own after dinner, it also goes very well with red meats, game, quail and other tasty dishes. It is excellent with matured cheeses like parmesan and pecorino. The vein of softness shown in some years makes this wine a good match with gorgonzola.
Temperature
18° C (64° F).
Harvest
Last September-First days of October.
TCD OPINION
Four star years considered excellent. We suggest you also to try the precedent year to make a comparison about taste and bouquet.
This Amarone from Masi is the epitome of elegance, and comes from a historic vineyard whose quality has been renowned since the XII century. The production of this wine is limited and the availability even more so. The Italian's have already cellared or drunk this Amarone! For a special occasion.
TCD Score: 90/100
90 points for a unique and limited edition wine that is silky and full bodied a very strong slighly acidic finish might not to everyones taste.
The Boscaini family have been the owners of the Masi vineyards for six generations. Sandro Boscaini is the company president. The other members of the family involved are Sandro's children: Alessandra and Raffaele, and his brothers: Bruno who looks after the production processes, and Mario who is a sleeping partner in the company.

Veneto
Veneto is among the foremost wine-producing regions, both for quality and quantity. The region counts over 20 DOC zones and a variety of sub-categories, many of its wines, both dry and Spumanti, are internationally known and appreciated. The three most well known DOCs are Bardolino, from the town with the same name and surrounding the shores of Garda Lake, Valpolicella, and Soave. Other noteworthy wines produced here are the white Bianco di Custoza, the excellent sparkling Prosecco, the Breganze, and the Amarone (a rich and powerful red from the Verona province). If you travel to the Treviso area, look for the little-known Clinton, a wine that is banned from distribution because it does not conform to the DOC standards, but is produced in limited quantities for local consumption. The importance of winemaking in this region is underscored by the creation in 1885 of the very first Italian school for vine growing and oenology. In addition, Veneto was the first region to constitute the first strada del vino or "wine road". This first wine-touring road featured special road signs providing information on vines and the wines they were made into and joined the Valdobbiadene and Conegliano DOC zones crossing a series of hilly vineyards. The most appreciated wines in the region come from the provinces of Treviso, Verona, Padova, Venice, and Vicenza. The area around Verona, with its temperate climate and hilly surrounding, is believed to have cultivated grapes since the Bronze Age.
